Eye Spy!

image

I frequently hear this beauty call at night, “Who Will Cook For You?” But it’s a rare thing to catch a view – particularly in the middle of the afternoon. On Sunday, as we all enjoyed some unseasonably warm weather, look who perched in one of our apple trees. ย He (or she? and how can you tell?) was so mellow and sleepy, just dozing in the sun I had a job to convince him to open his eyes for the photo. ย He is obviously used to seeing me.

Lucky, indeed! A friend of mine says it is a kind of a gift to see an owl. ๐Ÿ˜Œ Thanks!

What a treat. I rarely see more than a flash of wings with owls. This one looks like he is posing.

A barred owl! You can’t tell the difference between a male and female by comparing plumage. It’s only be comparing size (females are larger) and by observing their behaviour when mating and nesting. What a great photo! I’ve always wanted to get a photo of an owl.

Hi Liz! Thanks! It was a real thrill to see this guy/gal! Thanks for the info….. I guess I’ll never know if it was a boy or a girl (not that it matters), unless I see two together – and what are the chances of that?
