Doors of Otrobanda

Although it only contains a few blocks, Otrobanda, one of the historically significant quarters of Willemstad, Curacao is packed with a crazy variety of doors.

From grand entrances…..

…. to more modest portals.

Some had very interesting architectural features……. (love those posts!)…

and some funky business doorways.

It was so much fun to wander around this district. It was very, very hot and that might explain why it was so quiet.  But with so many interesting buildings, we were pulled along to discover what was around the next corner.

These Caribbean doors are linked to Norm’s Thursday Doors.

These are so colorful and unique they could be included in a coffee table door book. The first door is truly handsome. 🙂

Thanks! Doesn’t that door just invite you in? Maybe it’s the lush green that is so welcoming.

A lovely collection. The first and last ones make beautiful bookends. Well done 🙂

Thanks Norm! You have inspired me. I find myself seeking out doors everywhere I go.

Thanks! I’m so glad! The colour of the buildings beautifully compliment the sea and the sky. But contrasts sharply with the landscape, which is VERY dry.

Beautiful photos Janet, but the 3rd one is a wow. You’re right – those posts are stunning! It took me a second glance before I realized they had double faces.

Is that a medical society symbol on the top of the house in the 3rd photo? A doctor’s office?

Thanks!! I’ve never seen any post quite like these. So I’m not sure if they are unique to the island, or if Dutch influence. But I really like them. Yes, that is a medical symbol. Like you, I presumed it was a doctors office.

I’m a big fan of totem poles and that’s what they remind me of … mini totem poles. How cool is that?!
