The Earthworm plows the whole world with his tunnels, drains and aerates the earth …If you ever buy any land, be sure it has plenty of Earthworms toiling and moiling all day so that you can sit down and relax. – Will Cuppy
I disturbed this lovely fella while I was weeding around my emerging peonies. We greeted earth other, them both went back to work.
I have a life-long love of earthworms (vers de terre as they are called in France or coloquially in my locale lombric) …. they are wondrous friends to the earth we walk on and should be treated with the utmost respect. Here in New England where I am currently hard at work getting the ‘yard’ into shape, I have met many so far and am very happy to share my garden with them ๐
Nice!! They may not do ALL the work ( like the quote suggests), but they sure do help out. I love “vers de terre”!! I may add that to my own lexicon. Thanks!
It sounds so pretty I agree … I hope you will use it liberally ๐
They’re such friends to our gardens! Whenever it rains, we get earthworms right underneath our garage door. They’re usually dead by the time we see them and it always makes me sad.
Awww! That makes me sad, too! This particular worm was lucky my usual garden helpers (my chickens) were not with me when he emerged. ๐
Being chicken food is a helpful way to go. Drowning under the garage door doesn’t help anyone hee hee!
That’s true! ๐
Nice .. I love these little (or not) wriggles! ๐
They are such good guys!
