Have I mentioned that I have a passion for libraries? I do, you know. I am a card carrying member of my our local branch and seek them out whenever I’m travelling.
I think that the regard in which a community holds its public libraries speaks volumes about the place. ๐

ine my joy when lo and behold!, I wandered past this beauty….
<<<<
ld not resist stepping inside … into this covered courtyard space or "promenade".
Designed to resemble the Roman Colosseum this main branch, on West Georgia Street, opened in 1995. The library itself is a nine-story rectangular structure which houses the usual library business – stacks and services.
<<<<
surrounded by a freestanding elliptical, colonnaded wall. Here are reading and study areas which are accessed by bridges spanning skylit light wells. The library's internal glass facade overlook the glass-roofed courtyard.

space is formed by a second elliptical wall on the east side of the building and provides the entrance and, I suspect, lively and bright protection from Vancouver rainy winters.

utiful balance of form and function.
Very impressive, Vancouver!! I'd come back to visit any time of year just to further explore this library.
That is truly a gorgeous library. I wouldn’t mind spending some time there, Janet.
We could go together!!
I am 100% kindred with regard to libraries. I love them. And a good community reveres and supports its library. Vancouver I am just thrilled with yours! What a space … all hail Vancouver for its book palace!
This is a library with an attitude. ๐ I also love my home town library and picked up three books I’ve had on hold today. How can you beat it? See a new book, reserve it, pick it up, read it, and return it. I have no need to house books I’ve already read so it is a match made in reading heaven for me. ๐
That’s a lovely modern space. I’ve written a couple of posts about libraries. They are such peaceful places to visit.
What a beautiful, innovative library! Vancouver truly has its priorities right.
It certainly seems to. At least with regard to libraries.
What a fabulous library. Thanks for sharing๐
Thanks!!! And and thank you for dropping by โบ๏ธ
I used to go there all the time when I lived in Vancouver. Such a wonderful building!
How lucky!! It truly is a wonderful building. I wonder why we donโt hear more about it?
