This group of travellers made their way past our house yesterday just at suppertime. A moment before the photo was taken, my small flock of chickens were moving between their hooves. (I grabbed for the camera – too late – moment had passed). If you squint, you might be able to see some of the birds in the background.
A few minutes later, a skunk made her way past the barn. She was followed by the whole flick of chickens. I’m not sure if they were “showing her the door”, or just really curious. But the followed her to the hedge.
Again, I missed the shot. The skunk was out of sight. But I did catch the crew, apparently making sure that she was leaving. I confess, the thought made me smile!
It was a busy, high traffic late afternoon here. On the edge of the woods.
I was, however, extra vigilant when I went out at dusk to secure the birds for the night – to make sure Little Miss Skunk hadn’t made her way back. ๐
My kind of traffic in that first shot (except if they’re headed for my garden), but I’ll pass on the skunk. ๐

It was a pretty cute little skunk – from a distance … and inside looking out. ๐

Deer are beautiful creatures, but they sure wrecked havoc here in this wicked winter. One of my 7′ upright evergreens is only half the size it should be because they ate it like a salad bar. Love your barn and your feathered ladies. ๐
Thank you Judy. The deer are so brazen! Sauntering from the woods, past the electric fence, through the veg garden (raised bed, if you donโt mind), and then stop and look at me as if to say, โwhat are you doing here?โ
I’m picturing the chickens with the deer now. You live in a high traffic zone, Janet. lol
It was very busy! You know …. comparatively speaking.
The deer are lovely, not so sure about the skunk. You wouldn’t want to get close in case she took objection.
Quite right. ๐ท
Love that last shot! Arenโt chickens characters …๐ They were probably giving that skunk its marching orders ..
Loved the pics. The story behind the shots made me smile. ๐
Thank you Irene!๐
I’ve heard of a fox in the chicken house but not a skunk
We had one of those, too! A very handsome fox terrorized all just a few days after this post. Luckily, other than a few ruffled feathers, no harm done.
